Creating For Yourself

Sorrowbacon Doodle

Cat coma and badger bothers.

I’ve been creating things for myself for almost two months now, and never felt more content.

It’s fun to draw and write things that will never leave your workspace.

It’s fun to make things just because you want to.

Nobody is expecting anything from you.

And you don’t expect anything from them.

So look at what you want.

And just do.

It’s a bit of a “no brainer.” But, yes, your words are sweet to the senses. They free the artist’s soul from the shackles of economics and materialism. They should be on one of those motivational posters people put in their work spaces instead of just a kitten hanging from a tree branch and a lighthouse on a cliff.

You’re right. It’s one of those things that get lost in the day-to-day firefighting. You get so caught up in the ambition that you forget the passion. I made this post since I ran into the same problem, and thought others can benefit in some way. The kitten is iconic; wouldn’t want to compete against that. : )

You must have run into a fire truck or saw some fire being fought on TV.

Well, any time someone else makes you trade your passion for a paycheck, you forget the former. And, that’s why it’s hard for me to put a price on my talents/output.

Oh, why not? The kitten has driven some people to madness. Besides, Kellogg’s doesn’t have only one mascot. And, Disney isn’t just about a mouse. It need not be competition. The kitten can occupy some other wall:P

I refer to tending to urgent day-to-day matters as firefighting. We often get distracted by the flames and miss the bigger picture.

I’ll have to think about the motivational poster idea. You might’ve just planted a seed!

If I thought of urgent matters like that, I’d probably come home feeling sooty all the time. As it was, my last job left me feeling filthy many a day for no good reason.

I think in the time of a real fire, that IS the big–or, at least, the important picture. If the fire isn’t dealt with, it could become something worse. Sure, there’s all sorts of angles like what caused the fire and who’s responsible and what sinister plot might be behind the fire…but those can’t be dealt with before the fire unless you want the fire to do the damage/deed.

😉 That’s me. Lightning Giving Seed (instead of Johnny Apple Seed).
